To operate smoothly and fairly, the club needs a set of rules and regulations. They're there to ensure everyone's enjoyment and to let all members understand the club's structure and operations. Cick the button below to download a copy of the Club's Memorandum and Articles.
Members' Forum
It's not set in stone, but we normally have two members' forums each year - in March or April following the AGM of a general nature, and in October or November there's a Skippers' Forum which focuses mainly on sailing activities. In these, Members are asked for their thoughts on ideas put forward by the General Committee and Members are actively encouraged to suggest their own ideas to make Colne Yacht Club a more interesting and vibrant place to be, so as to meet member's expectations. However, if you do want to raise an issue please contact the club office at waterside@colneyachtclub.org.uk and we will be happy to ensure your questions are answered.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting is held each March or April. All voting members are welcome to attend. Family membership carries one vote (even though there are two adults in the family). The AGM is a chance to review the past year; elect the officers for next year; decide on any changes to the club's rules; and see how well the club is doing financially as the treasurer takes us through the figures.
Constitution
The Constitution covers everything from the club's name to how we handle complaints. At the AGM in March 2019 the club members voted to adopt a new constitution to enable the Yacht Club to operate through a company limited by guarantee. This company was formed in April 2019 and the yacht club started operating through the company in November 2019. The Yacht Club now operates as ‘Colne Water Activities Limited T/A The Colne Yacht Club’. The company is limited by guarantee and the guarantors are the voting members of the club. Below is a copy of the incorporation documentation and the Articles of Association for the club, these are based on the RYA example rules for a yacht club. The Articles of Association also have a number of appendices that cover specific rules for the boat yard and the jetty. The constitution is below. Please note that the website will carry the most up to date version of the constitution but printed copies may be out of date.
