TASTER SESSION
Aim To familiarise participants with the skills and experiences associated with powerboating, and to make them aware of aspects of control, safety and boathandling in powerboats.

LEVEL 1 START POWERBOATING
Aim: to provide a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats. The course will be conducted in a club rib.

Duration 1 Day
Content. Launch and recovery, preparation of boat and crew, boat handling, picking out and securing to a buoy, leaving and coming alongside, basics of man overboard drill.
- Minimum age 8 years old
- Endorsements aged 8 -11 should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult on board the craft.
- Aged 12-15 years – the holder should only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult.
LEVEL 2 POWERBOAT HANDLING

Content
Launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard
Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The course can be taken at an inland or coastal location. It may be conducted in a variety of boat types, both planing and displacement. The certificate issued will be endorsed to show the type of boat in which the training took place.
A Rib with a qualified RYA instructor and safety equipment
16 hours practical tuition, three students 1 Instructor.
Minimum Age 12 ( Up to age of 15 must be under supervision of responsible adult).
Format
Two Days (concurrent) or Five evenings (over five weeks)
Predominantly practical but with some classroom elements.
Qualification:
RYA PBT2 certificate upon reaching the required standard
