Sonata Eastern Championships and Nicky Henderson Cup
Sunday 19th July
A bright and breezy day provided excellent sailing conditions as six Sonatas gathered to contest both the Nicky Henderson Trophy and the Sonata Eastern Championships.
The Race Committee lead by Colin Willet set a windward-leeward course off Point clear beach, with competitors completing a series of four closely fought races. The breeze made for exciting tactical sailing, with positions changing throughout the fleet.
The top four boats—Zingy, Doris, Blackjack, and MK4—were closely matched throughout the day, producing some excellent racing with little separating them at the finish of each race.
Little Jem and Inferno sailed consistently to finish fifth and sixth respectively, showing determination despite the intense competition ahead.
Overall, the day delivered four competitive races in ideal sailing conditions, setting the stage for an exciting championship contest.
Racing was followed by a prize-giving ceremony at the yacht club, where the Commodore presented the Sonata Eastern Championships trophies to the top three boats. The beautiful glass trophies had been generously provided by our sponsors, Blasted Glass Company.
The Nicky Henderson Trophy was presented by Enzo Henderson, Nickys son, to the overall winner, Zingy.
A huge thank you goes to everyone involved in making the day such a success. Events like this would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of all our volunteers, both on and off the water.
Overall Results: 1st Zingy, 2nd Doris, 3rd Blackjack, 4th MK4, 5th Little Jem, 6th Inferno.
