A Happy New Year to all our members. Let us hope for a prosperous and peaceful 2024.  Many thanks to those who helped take down Christmas decorations this week. I am pleased to say the weather was kind to us.

I am delighted to say that the Sailing Committee has just issued the 2024 Sailing Programme. It is now on the club website, with a copy if you click here.

Having just come ashore from checking that my new boat survived last nights storm ‘Henk’ on its winter mooring in the creek, which I am pleased to report that it did, I am looking forward to racing her in the coming season.

As you will see from the events listed above, the social committee are working very hard to put on activities in the club to keep us all warm and entertained over the winter months. We hope you will take this opportunity to come along and  not only meet up with friends but also continue to support the club when you can through the winter months. It was great to see the club full just before Christmas with the Churches Together Carols on the hard followed by drinks with Roger and Paxo in the bar. My thanks goes to Jacqui for the fantastic buffet that she put on for members at the event.

The AGM is being held on the 16 March 2024 at 11.00 and we are actively looking for some new blood to join the Main Committee. So, if you would like to play a role in influencing the way the club develops over the next 12 months please consider standing for the Main Committee. This is my third year as Commodore and I feel it is time for me to stand down and let others take over the reigns. The Commodore is responsible for overseeing the various committees and activities under taken by the club and for chairing the monthly Main Committee meetings. If anyone would like to stand as Commodore for 2024/25 please give me a call or drop me an email, I will be happy to discuss the role. To misquote a famous speech made by JFK ‘ask not what the yacht club can do for you but what you can do for the yacht club’. I hope we can find a willing volunteer to takeover from me at the March AGM.

I look forward to seeing you in the club bar over the next few weeks.

Adrian Gibbons – Commodore 2023/24.
